Problems
When we loooked again at our storyboard some scenes were too difficult to recreate and film and so we cut these ideas and changed them. For example, we were unable to create the hanging bodies scene we wanted to film because we could find no practical way of filming this.

FeedBack
After we exported our opening 2 minutes of our
psychological thriller to you tube, we posted it on Facebook, Twitted it and
broadcasted it on BlackBerry Messenger to all of our contacts to get feedback
from our peers/audience on our production, so we can make improvements and so it
is suitable for our target audience.
Positive Feedback
“Overall
the production was excellent”
“The shaking head effect was really good and it
freaked me out”
“I would watch it if it
got produced based on the fact that I think it was on the same levels as
professionals”
“It’s really good”
Improvements/Criticisms
“Maybe
change the split screen so it is showed all in one, but show the good side of
Dawn (main character in our production) then the evil
side”
“It
might be more effective if you showed Dawn’s evil side through the
mirror"
“Another character so there could be a
murder"
“More footage would have helped me understand your
production more”
“Narration
or subtitles would have made the story line clearer. For example ‘one girl’ ‘one
creepy day’ ‘a world full of secrets’ before Andriana says
“shhhh”
The
feedback that we got about mirroring Dawn's evil side through the morror was one
of the problems we encountered when fliming. We tried this effect but it didnt
work in the way we wanted it to, because when we tried to film in a mirror, the
angle we had to film it from made it hard to clearly see 'Dawns' facial
expressions, so we decided to cut that clip from our final production.
Also if we
changed our production so it would be without the split sreen, it would be even
more confusing for the audience.
Another problem we encountered was when we recorded
dialogue, the words spoken were not very clear, to resolve this we took several
recordings; However each recording had the same problem.
Costume
We used a white
shirt to represent the characters 'good' side. White normally portrays purity
and innocence. We also used this type of clothing because it was worn in the era
we set our film opening in.The white is also used as a signal for when Dawn is in her normal state of mind and is aware of what she is doing.
We used the black
shirt to represent Dawn's 'bad' side. Black normally portrays evil and
mystery. This was used to convey how Dawn changed from a good, genuine child to
a distorted, psychotic mindset, this contrasts with the white shirt and works well in the split screen and black and white effect.
We used a black,
long skirt because this was deemed respectable in the era we chose. We decided to
use one skirt instead of having one of both colours because the scenes with the
white shirt used did not need a skirt.
This also portrays
evil mind set and conveys Dawn's unhinged persona.
Editing using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5
I added the group institution clip which i had created on www.onetruemedia.com, It was initially
just a draft, but we then decided the clip was good to use for our final piece.
I crated the images using Adobe Fireworks CS5, The intial idea was pleasable;
However a problem i found with using this clip is that the graphics of the
animation were of poor quality due to rescaling the image. There was no way that
we could have improved the quality without starting the clip again, but this
would be time consuming so we left it as it was.
When we began to edit our two minute opening of a thriller film, we saw that there were parts that we filmed that were not steady and were very shaky; this is because of we did not use the tripod properly and we filmed some footage's hand held. We decided to re-film some shots, such as our Establishing shots of a local setting.
We uploaded our film introduction into Adobe Premier Pro and began the editing process. We wanted to use the black and white effect to show clearly the two different types of personality our character had. The black and white filter made our costume choice stand out as the black represented the ‘dark and deranged’ mood whereas the white symbolised everything’ good and pure’ about the character. Our editor, Marissa did this by going into video effects à image control à black & white and dragged this onto our timeline where the effect was needed.
I used black and white for the beginning clips where everything seemed ‘normal’ such as getting dressed and the everyday activities our character can be seen doing.

We used split screen
to compare and contrast the two different frames rather than having it as a long
sequence. By using this effect you could also clearly see the full effect of the
black and white filter.
To
Split screen- I clicked on the image clip on the top right corner and rescaled
it, I then overlapped another clip and also rescaled it, I put them side by side
which created the split screen effect, the lighting was different in each clip
so I toggled the opacity of the clips on the timeline by dragging the yellow
line up or down to make the lighting on the clips similar. I continued to do
this for the scenes where Dawn is getting ready/waking up.
We used flashes of our main character in between our
flowing sequences to add a sudden tensity to our film and hopefully scare the
audience and draw them in to watch more. To do this our editor cropped a clip
which did not have any added effects to.
I
cropped it using the razor tool and dropped the clips onto the timeline in the
specific places.
The head
shaking was the hardest and most time
consuming part of our editing due to the fact that both clips had to be visibly
seen in order for it to have the full effect,as well as overlapping both parts
of film we also had to speed up the clip of the actual head shaking because the
motion was too slow for the effect we required.
I overlapped a clip on top of another clip
and made pin pointed sections and toggled
the opacity of them to create a shaking head effect which we saw on the
T.V program ‘Misfits’ .
We faded out of the head
shaking into complete blackness to separate the film
sequence.
I then added a ‘dip to
black effect’ at the end ( video transitions à disovle à dip to black and dragged
this effect onto the timeline.
To speed up the one clip of our main character
walking Marissa split a clip using the razor tool but did not crop it, she did
this so that she could increase the speed of the clip for each section to create
a fast, demented walk effect. The speed was increased by 10% at every cut that
was made. There were no specific times at which the video was cut and sped up and this therefore reflects the frame of
mind of which our character is in.
I
then used the effect ‘dip to white’ at the end of this scene to create a
‘flashed’ effect to fade out of our film introduction. I then cropped some clips
and as the character closes her eyes and I added the ‘dip to black’ effect so
the audience feel like they closed their eyes before viewing the title of our
film.
Music
For the music, we researched some songs on
YouTube.
We really liked this one:
At first we were going to base our score on this
example but then we decided to go with a different 'feel'.
We created the song on a software called
'Reason'
With this software, we were able to create our
score. There were many instruments to choose from which was good for us to
explore and experiment, we decided to use ‘music box’ because it suited our
‘thriller’ and ‘eerie’ theme. We made up
a melody on a synthesizer which could be inserted into a computer and then we
copied and pasted that melody to make a continuous song. We thought it sounded
rather repetitive so we experimented with a higher octave and different notes.
When we finished our score, we recorded
the song using software called ‘AV voice changer 4.0 diamond’ so we could
convert it into an mp3 file.
Near the
end of the film opening, we added a heartbeat sound. We were not able to record
someone’s heartbeat so we found that particular sound online; it was copy right
free so we were allowed to use it.
At the
end, we recoreded me screaming using a voice recording app on an iPhone. We did
this so the audience would feel 'thrilled' and wonder what happened to this girl
at the end.
Credits/Title
For our credits we
wanted the words to look scary or horror looking, that the usually have in
horror / thriller movies. We created our credits in Adobe After Effects CS5
because it is high quality and has a wide range of fonts and effects embedded
into the programme. However we looked through the fonts on Adobe After Effect
CS5 and we didn't like the ones they had. Also the ones they had didn't suit the
genre of our film.
Initially this was the font we
wanted to use for our credits. We got this font from 10001fonts.com
Exporting the font to Adobe After Effect CS5 was
one of the
problems we encountered. So we decided to use a font which was already installed
on Adobe After Effect CS5.
My group
and I decided to use the font 'Onyx'. We thought this was a good font to use
because it is old fashioned looking and structured. However it did not
illustrate the distorted and disturbed mind of the character in our production,
So we edited it to fit the eerie imagery intended. We also rendered the title a
different, and more compelling colour.
We also did this for the credits, Here is the
process:
We were also very fond of this example, However it seemed too complex and far
fetched to recreate
and we wanted to be original with our production. This being said, we didn't want our credits to overlap the actual film as it does in the clip above, we wanted the opening credits to alternate so that we could extend our production and so that the audience would focus on both the credits and the filming separatley.
